Garlic for Weight Loss (Boost Flavor and Nutrients)

It’s not news that that garlic is a nutritional powerhouse. Studies show it boosts immunity, helps to reduce blood pressure, reduces inflammation and much more.

And new research shows the stinking rose can help protect against weight gain too.

Garlic For Weight Loss: More Flavor, Less Fat

A recent study published in the American Journal of Hypertension explored the relationship between a allicin, powerful phytonutrient in garlic, and weight gain.

The researchers fed the all of the subjects a diet high in fructose to cause high insulin, blood pressure and triglycerides (learn about the dangers of fructose here). The study group was then divided into three subgroups- a control group eating a fructose-enriched diet and two experimental groups receiving the fructose – enriched diet plus allicin.

At the end of the 5 week study, researchers found that the control group fed the fructose-enriched diet alone continued to gain weight, while the groups fed allicin did not.

Getting The Health Benefits of Garlic

To get the most benefits, enjoy raw garlic. Chop or crush garlic and let it stand for 10 minutes. This allows beneficial compounds – including those responsible for the weight loss benefits – to form. Use fresh garlic in salad dressings and sauces, as well as dips like hummus for a flavorful fat-fighter.

My name is Maggie Wills and I have been eating a clove of garlic daily in the morning before anything is eaten. I mince it that morning, let it sit for about 5 minutes and put honey on top of it then I swallow it without chewing it with a glass of water. This is the catalyst for my stomach to start doing it’s job of digestion. I find the honey helps with inflammation. After about the third day I am able to notice a difference in cravings for sweets, feeling full and heartburn issues that I normally have. They tend to either go away or decrease. I have been pretty faithful about this during the week and on the weekends, I don’t deter from the diet of low sugar, low carbs, but if I want to have a cheat day I don’t beat myself up because it has the affect of boosting the weight loss. I have been doing this for two weeks and I have lost 10lbs. I did this same diet when I weighed 235lbs and lost down to 190lbs. I am now down to 180lbs.
