Nutmeg is the seed of Myristica fragrans, an evergreen tree. The outer membrane of nutmeg is actually the spice mace.

Nutmeg’s warm flavor is delicious in fruit dishes, and milk-based desserts, as well as spinach, squash and potato dishes.

Whole nutmeg freshly ground with a grater has a far superior flavor to ground, packaged nutmeg.

While no information is currently available on the antioxidant ability (or ORAC) of nutmeg, it is presumed to be high in antioxidants.
