Simple and Delicious Paleo Recipes

Do you want to lose weight, eliminate food allergens, stabilize your blood sugar and diminish cravings? Then a Paleo diet might be just what the doctor ordered.

Because our genes have changed little since the days of our Paleolithic ancestors, proponents of the Paleo diet believe this to be the diet that is most suitable to our genetics.

Popularized in recent years by Loren Cordain, PhD (The Paleo Diet), Mark Sisson (author of Primal Blueprint and Mark’s Daily Apple) and others, eating primal means getting back to a hunter-gatherer diet and avoiding “Neolithic foods” like grains, legumes and dairy, high-tech oils (including corn, soybean, canola, vegetable, safflower and sunflower rich in omega 6 fats) as well as processed foods, additives, preservatives, antibiotics, yeast, caffeine, alcohol, growth hormones, artificial sweeteners and other adulterants.

With such a long list of “no-no’s”, you might be wondering…

What CAN I Eat on a Paleo Diet?

A Paleo diet is based around grass-fed meats, wild fish, pastured poultry, and wild game. Healthy fats are used liberally, including those from coconut oil, olive oil, butter, avocados, nuts and seeds. Above-ground veggies and leafy greens are also enjoyed in abundance, while fruit is eaten in moderation. (Check out the Paleo diet food list here)

As you browse through our Paleo Recipe collection, you might be pleasantly surprised to find that comfort foods like Paleo Pumpkin Pancakes, crispy Paleo Coconut Shrimp,  fresh-baked Paleo focaccia bread, biscuits, waffles, cookies and desserts can also be enjoyed on a primal diet. All it takes is a few simple ingredient substitutions and a little recipe know-how. So dig in!

Here are the specific criteria for Paleo recipes at Healing Gourmet:

  • NO GRAINS
  • NO CORN
  • NO GLUTEN
  • NO DAIRY
  • NO LEGUMES
  • NO SOY
  • NO YEAST

Along with eating an ancestral diet, to truly live the Paleo lifestyle it is vital that you engage in native-type exercise (such as high intensity interval training), optimize your vitamin D levels (ideally obtained from sun exposure) and don’t smoke.

Our no-fail Paleo pita bread recipe is ready in 30 minutes and pairs perfectly with our Paleo hummus.

Low Carb Paleo Pita Bread

Traditional breads - like pita - are more than just a part of a meal. These loaves and rounds have graced tables for millennia, both for sustenance and as a representation of community. The pita pocket is a prime example of an ancient grain recipe carried down to the modern world. Since it didn’t require much time in the oven, the pita and its variations were an ideal form of quick bread. And … [Read more...]

Melt-in-Your-Mouth, Duck Fat Braised Pork Sirloin Roast

When it comes to the porcine popularity contest, pork sirloin roast rarely gets its due… It’s no contender to the ever-popular pork shoulder, which is typically used to make classic “pulled” pork. It’s a far cry from crisp and addictive bacon (Hey, even vegans crave it!). And it’s unlikely that many top chefs will choose it over a bone-in chop that requires little more than a quick marinade and … [Read more...]

Fall-Off-The-Bone Pressure Cooker Chicken (in 30 Minutes!)

When you hear "pressure cooker chicken" you may think of your mother's (or grandmother's) cooking... and possibly even stories of exploding pots yielding ceiling stains (or worse, burns). But cooking with today's pressure cookers is much different.
