Concerned about breast cancer? Enjoying cruciferous veggies like cabbage, bok choy, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, may help reduce your risk.
A study published in the Journal of Nutrition examined the effects of sulforaphane-a phytonutrient found in cruciferous vegetables- on human breast cancer cells.
Researchers treated MCF-7, a human breast cancer cell line, with sulforaphane. Within 24 hours, the cancer cells stopped growing and dividing and there was an increase in a cancer-protective protein.
Get your cancer-fighting cruciferous veggies in these dishes. And remember, sulforaphane is destroyed by heat, so enjoy them raw for maximum benefit.
