Most commercially available breadcrumbs are made with refined flour and contain trans fats. Here's a quick, easy way to make fresh, healthy breadcrumbs.
Notes:
- 1 slice of bread yields 1/2 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- 1 slice of bread yields 1/3 cup dry breadcrumbs
- Try Food For Life Brown Rice Bread (gluten free)
- Use gluten-free waffles for light panko-like breading
- Make grain-free breadcrumbs by making your own grain free bread, then grinding as noted below
Use toaster to thaw and lightly toast bread; add to a Magic Bullet or food processor and blend until you achieve a crumb consistency. If desired, place crumbs on a cookie sheet an bake at 250 F until toasted, about 15 minutes.
