Cyclamate (Sucaryl) was removed from the food market by the FDA in 1969 due to evidence showing a link with bladder cancer in lab animals.
Some researchers believe that cyclamate is converted in the body to cyclohexylamine (CHA), which may cause chromosomal changes and damage in embryos, though this has not yet been clearly shown.
