Annato

Anatto is a yellow to light orange vegetable dye that is a derivative of the achiote trees of tropical regions of the Americas. It is used commonly in dairy products such as butter, buttermilk, cottage cheese, and other cheeses.  Anatto is also used to color margarine, ice cream, cake mixes, baked goods, and the casings of hot dogs.

Annato is on the GRAS list and has no known toxicity.
